Herman Teirlinck is a new office building at the site Tour and Taxi, Brussels. It is the headquarters of the Flemish Government and named after the Belgian writer Herman Teirlinck. Its sustainable HVAC system was designed by Boydens engineering, part of Sweco. The building is heated and cooled using a combination of concrete core activation, radiant ceilings, VAVs with heating coils which are controlled per room. The buildings contains over 1000 control actuators. The heat and cold are mostly produced by two geothermal heat pumps connected to an Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage (ATES). Ventilation is provided by air handling units equipped with heat recovery and adiabatic cooling.

For this project, Builtwins performed excitation tests in each room to detect whether the actuators and sensors are still working correctly. The next step will be the activation of MPC to further improve the comfort and reduce the energy use.
