Focus

As Professor in Mechanical Engineering at KU Leuven, Lieve leads the Thermal Systems Simulation (The SySi) Team, where system integration is key to provide low-carbon services. Since 2008 The SySi Team excels in the development of MPC as the system integrator, starting with hybrid systems in individual buildings and moving to multi energy carrier systems, coupling multiple building functions, multiple energy vectors, multiple energy services and multiple sectors, thereby unlocking flexibility and increasing the share of renewable and residual energy sources (R²ES).

Lieve is member of the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts, AcademiaNet, EnergyVille and the Board of Directors of ODE Vlaanderen. In 2022 The SySi Team received the Joule Award, which recognizes a person, company or institute that shows potential to become a superstar of the energy transition in the coming 25 years.
